Mango Lassi Recipe, How to make Mango Lassi with step by step photos and easy to follow instructions:
Mango Lassi – Thick, smooth and sweet mango lassi with a slight tanginess – is a healthy summer drink to accompany any meal as well as to enjoy between meals.
Mango Lassi is a yogurt based mango drink. A super popular summer drink enjoyed on hot summer days during mango season. Indians are obsessed with mangoes! When mangoes are in season, we take full advantage of the fresh crop from pickling the young tender mangoes; and making drinks and desserts with sweet ripe mangoes.
Just the word “mango” brings back so many of the childhood memories. I still remember it like yesterday – dipping mangoes in a bucket full of icy water to cool down the mangoes quickly….waiting impatiently along with my siblings for the mangoes to cool down…mischievously dipping the fingers into cold water in attempt to steal a mango… taking the first bite of sweet, fragrant, beautiful bright yellow flesh….
Lassi simply means – yogurt beverage. It comes in many different flavors – sweet, salty, with fruits, with herbs like mint or basil, with spices like cumin, black pepper and much more. Mango Lassi is a favorite drink commonly served at Indian restaurants. If you haven’t tasted it yet, order one, next time you go eat out at an Indian restaurant.
You can use fresh, frozen or canned mangoes to make Mango Lassi. If using fresh, make sure the mango is ripe and sweet. If the mango is not sweet, add sugar or honey.
Another tip: if the fresh mangoes have fiber, make sure to remove the fiber from the mangoes by pressing the mango pulp through a sieve before adding it to the yogurt.
Here is how to make delicious Mango Lassi:
- I recommend using plain yogurt to maintain the mango flavor. Also, if you are using fresh mango, make sure that mango pulp has no strings of fiber for smooth lassi.
- Now pour all the ingredients into a blender and blend until mixture is smooth. I am not using the ice cubes because all my ingredients are already cold.
- Taste the lassi before pouring into glasses. If you find that the lassi is too sweet, you can add more yogurt or plain milk as well.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!!
